Abamectin resistance in Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae): selection, cross-resistance and stability of resistance Neotropical Entomology
Sato,Mário E.; Silva,Marcos Z. da; Raga,Adalton; Souza Filho,Miguel F. de.
Studies on artificial laboratory selections with abamectin, cross-resistance relationships, and stability of resistance were carried out with Tetranychus urticae Koch to provide basic information for an abamectin resistance management program. Selections for resistance and susceptibility to abamectin were performed in a population of T. urticae, collected from a commercial strawberry field in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. After five selections for resistance and five selections for susceptibility, susceptible (S) and resistant (R) strains of T. urticae to abamectin were obtained. The resistance ratio (R/S) at the LC50 reached 342-fold values. The toxicity of eight acaricides was evaluated in the R and S strains, observing significant differences (at...

Adoption of Best Management Practices to Control Weed Resistance By Cotton, Corn, and Soybean Growers AgEcon
Frisvold, George B.; Hurley, Terrance M.; Mitchell, Paul D..
This study examined adoption of ten best management practices (BMPs) to control weed resistance to herbicides. Using data from a survey of 1,205 U.S. cotton, corn, and soybean growers, count data models were estimated to explain the total number of practices frequently adopted. Ordered probit regressions were used to explain the frequency of individual BMP adoption. Growers practicing a greater number of BMPs frequently (a) had more education, but less farming experience; (b) grew cotton, (c) expected higher yields relative to the county average; and (d) farmed in counties with a lower coefficient of variation (CV) for yield of their primary crop. Yield expectations and variability were significant predictors of the frequency of adoption of individual...

Aplicación localizada de spirotetramat y spiromesifen en Capsicum chinense (Jacq) y su efecto en la oviposición de Bactericera cockerelli (Sulc) (Hemíptera: Triozidae). Colegio de Postgraduados
Tucuch Haas, Jorge Ismael.

Evaluation of genetic mixtures of sorghum lines for anthracnose resistance management Trop. Plant Pathol.
Costa,Rodrigo V. da; Casela,Carlos R; Zambolim,Laércio; Santos,Fredolino G; Vale,Francisco X. R. do.
The main objective of this work was to evaluate the diversification of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) populations as a way to manage resistance to the sorghum anthracnose fungus Colletotrichum graminicola. A total of 18 three-way hybrids were obtained by crossing six single cross male-sterile F1 hybrids, derived by crossing A (non restorer sterile cytoplasm) and B (non restorer normal cytoplasm) lines, with three fertile R (restorer) lines, previously evaluated for their differential reaction to the pathogen. Variation in the level of resistance was observed, as indicated by the values of the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) obtained for each hybrid. Lines contributed differently to the level of resistance of each hybrid. All hybrids in which...

Identifying Optimum Herbicide Mixtures to Manage and Avoid Fenoxaprop-p-Ethyl Resistant Phalaris minor in Wheat Planta Daninha
ABBAS,T.; NADEEM,M.A.; TANVEER,A.; AHMAD,R..
ABSTRACT Use of herbicide mixtures has been advocated as most effective strategy for avoidance and management of herbicide resistant weeds. Effect of twelve selected treatments of four herbicides (clodinafop-propargil, metribuzin, pinoxaden and sulfosulfuron) two-way mixtures at different doses was investigated against fenoxaprop-p-ethyl resistant and susceptible populations of P. minor grown along the wheat plants. In repeated experiment, herbicides mixtures were applied at 3 to 4 leaf stage of P. minor under greenhouse conditions. All the herbicide mixtures were effective to control resistant as well as susceptible P. minor. Mixtures having 75% lethal dose of each mixture component provided best control against P. minor. Mixtures with 50% lethal dose of...

Insecticide resistance and control failure likelihood among populations of the boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) from Mato Grosso (Brazil) Agronomy
Oliveira-Marra, Sharrine Omari Domingues; Guedes, Raul Narciso Carvalho; Bastos, Cristina Schetino; Marra, Pedro Henrique Alves; Vivan, Lucia Madalena; Zanine, Anderson de Moura.
The cotton producers from southern Mato Grosso are currently experiencing control failure with the use of the use of insecticides against the cotton boll weevil Anthonomus grandis Boheman, the main pest species of this commodity. Therefore, the present study was designed to survey insecticide resistance and the associated likelihood of control failure among boll weevil populations in the region. Ten insect populations were sampled during the 2016/2017 season and subjected to time-mortality (contact) bioassays in glass vials impregnated with dried insecticide residues at their respective label rates. The three insecticides most frequently used in the region were surveyed: the organophosphate malathion and the pyrethroids beta-cyfluthrin and...

Resistance of oriental fruit moth (Lepidoptera: tortricidae) to insecticides in apple orchards in southern Brazil Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Monteiro,Lino Bittencourt; Teixeira,Rosangela; Guiloski,Izonete Cristina; Chappuis,Edson; Assis,Helena Cristina da Silva de.
Abstract Oriental fruit moth (Grapholita molesta) is the most important pest of apple orchards in Brazil. For many years, insecticides have been the only tool used for its control. The aim of this work was to characterize the management of apple orchards by the system for Assessment of Environment Impact of Agricultural Technology Innovations (AMBITEC-AGRO) and to relate it with the resistance status of G. molesta populations. Insecticide resistance was estimated by toxicology and enzymatic activities of glutathione S-transferase (GST), esterases (a-ß EST), and acetylcholinesterase (AChE). The phytosanitary strategies adopted by the four apple production orchards in southern Brazil were analyzed in: Vacaria (RS population), Fraiburgo (SC1 population), São...
